Hear Louise Forshaw and Damien O’Connor from the Wargrave Big Local talk on Radio Merseyside about their feelings regarding the proposed closure of the Job Centre in Earlestown. The interview was ‘aired’ on the 1st March 2017 and also features information about the Job Club that is based at Newton Community Centre each Tuesday – an initiative started by Wargrave Big Local – and which has seen local residents move into work or training since its inception.
As reported by Wargrave Big Local member Louise Forshaw, Louise and Damien O’Connor were on Radio Merseyside this morning (010317) at half past seven talking about the proposed closure of the Job Centre in Earlestown. If you missed it you can listen on the iplayer later today.
Damien added that they managed to cover most points in the broadcast piece that they wanted to. After the interview, Damien and Louise went on to a meeting with the Job Centre management and had a ‘good and frank discussion’ with them. What became clear is that the Job Centre management and staff are “every bit as passionate about getting people employment in our area as we are” he says. We made it clear that we wanted our Job Centre kept open. However should it close they take our point that we still need a facility here in the Wargrave/Newton area and that we don’t want to break the links that we have built up between the Job Centre and our Job Club, held each week at the Newton Community Centre. “Lets hope something positive will come from the process”.
Our event went really well, at its peak we had well over 100 people in attendance! The mince pies organised by Jeanne and Louise were very well received, thanks to Val and Father Fedigan for the blessing and both choirs which were fabulous and the tree looked so pretty! Great atmosphere! It was a great team effort from the partnership and the community centre – here’s to the first of many joint events! Big thanks too to Tesco (mince pies) and St Helens Council (tree lights).
